This is so very true. In conversations I have with Liberal supporters (and reading the comments by the rusted-ons in The Australian) I hear this truth time and time again - they are projecting. Trouble is that they just don't see it as they doom-walk to their oblivion.

It takes people a long time to realise that a 'brand' no longer has the substance it once had. But once the collapse of the substance becomes obvious the brand is in dire trouble

You say, 'Menzies brought together some 18 different non-Labor groups to form the Liberal Party'. There are at least 10 non-Labor parties/groups currently vying for votes who, between them, get at least enough votes for 12 senators (over two elections). That would be a good start ...

Yes. Most interesting breakup of the non-labor parties. Very much reflective of the distant past perhaps?

Yes, the Libs seem to be tearing themselves apart on various fronts, and it will probably be a while before a coherent party re-emerges, if ever
