Australia’s ‘Free Palestine’ movement a Marxist front.
I attended the Free Palestine rally in Melbourne last Sunday 23 March. It felt more like a Marxists shindig than a call for freedom and peace!
Last Sunday (23 March 2025) I joined the throng on the steps of the Victorian State Library in central Melbourne CBD. I attended the Free Palestine Sunday Rally organised by Free Palestine Melbourne and supported by the Victorian Socialist party and many other groups. I wanted to understand their messaging. Here’s my report.
In summary what I saw and heard had all the features to me of a Marxist rally utilising the ‘branding’ of Gaza, Hamas and Palestine to surreptitiously promote Marxist ideology, linguistics, and politics into the Australian consciousness. The strategic techniques of the Marxists in this respect are impressive and highly effective. I’ll explain.
Around the middle of this article, I reference and discuss the key speech delivered to the multitudes on the library steps. I recorded the speech and I’m providing a Youtube link. But first let me set the scene. Mainly with pictures. There was quite a large crowd spread out across the lawns in front of the library.
The crowd included families, grandparents and a broad cross section of ethnic groups.
This included solid support from the union movement including the Australian Manufacturing Union, the Australian Services Union, construction union, midwives, disability services and others.
Plus, the Victorian Socialists were there in force evidenced by their promotion of the event (see the Facebook post above). Remember the Victorian Socialists are the political wing of Socialist Alternative, the peak Marxist body in Australia. (They organise the annual Easter Marxist Conference at Melbourne University for example). I believe that Socialist Alternative would have been key organisers of the Sunday rally.
Before the main ‘show’ started a smallish group of pro-Jewish supporters were moved on by police away from the rally. Some say the police were heavy handed. I thought they seemed firm but polite and even respectful. But you can judged for yourself from this 7 minute video posted on X of the police ‘move on’.
The ‘main event’- Speeches
The centre piece of the rally for me was the warm-up speeches, after which the crowd moved into street march procession through Melbourne’s CBD. It was these speeches, particularly from the lead ‘master of ceremonies’ speaker that most caught my, and I think the throngs attention. I recorded the speech and have made an edited Youtube of it. I’ve tried to be true to the speech as delivered without editorial distortion.
Here's the speech link (3min 30sec) (Note the opening comments from the speaker refer to the pro-Jewish supporters ‘moved on’ by police.)
I’ve summarised the main ‘takeout’ messaging directly from the speech. It helps if you first listen/watch the video so you can make your own assessment. But I think I’ve accurately summarised the speech’s points being;
‘We’ (ie; the collective of rally participants) are people of love, inclusion, hope and a better tomorrow.
“They’ (being the pro-Jewish ‘moved on’ group) are people supporting an ideology of supremacy, ethnic cleansing, land destruction, ecocide, genocide. ‘They’ represent the worst of humanity.
He says that the Free Palestine movement is not just about Palestine but it’s about all oppressed people. This includes indigenous people in Australia, oppressed by colonialism.
He says that Zionists should be ‘uncomfortable’. (In simple terms, a Zionist is someone who believes in the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people in the land of Israel. So presumably if you are not Jewish but believe in or support the existence of the state of Israel you are a Zionist.) The speech goes on “If you believe in a racist, supremacist ideology you should feel uncomfortable” “You should only feel comfortable if you believe in humanity and we have space for you. We will help de-programme you” “We will help you understand that we are all precious…regardless of race, colour, religion, gender…and the earth is precious…”
“If you are a white supremist, a homophobe, an anti-Semite (?) and Islamophobe …whatever sort of hate you have you don’t belong here…” But we won’t forgive!!!
The speaker asserts a list of ‘lies’ related to October 7 “… babies in ovens, breasts cut off …those lies were used to manufacture consent of ‘this genocide.”
My comments and analysis
Let’s first put to one side the issue of what might be ‘facts’ and ‘truth’ about Gaza. Let’s look instead at the linguistic techniques used to ‘rally’ the rally! It goes like this.
If you are part of ‘our’ collective, that is you are one of the people at or who support the rally, you are a person of purity and goodness. Conversely if you are not part of our collective you are hateful. You are the worst of humanity.
This linguistic gameplay is standard stuff. It relies on emotion based assumptions about people regardless of what individual people think, believe or how they behave. The technique has been applied throughout history to manipulate groups and nations to the will of ‘leaders.’ It’s used to create a them and us mentality that gives psychological justification to the ‘in’ crowd to treat the ‘out’ crowd however they deem necessary. Such linguistic technique is used whether the ‘in’ group ‘thing’ is religion, politics, ethnicity, tribe or whatever. It’s a technique used to bend the thoughts of the ‘masses’ to the will and ambitions of the few.
So, my first appeal to ‘outsiders’ trying to understand the activities of the Free Palestine ‘insiders,’ is to not be distracted by the linguistic gameplay. For the purposes of understanding their techniques and strategy stay analytical.
The second issue is this.
The domestic Free Palestine rally/movement is not about finding solutions to the issue of Gaza. Rather Free Palestine is one of the front issues used for the promotion of the revolutionary Australian modern Marxist agenda.
The key speaker made this plain when he openly said that the issue of Palestine is about all oppressed people and things. And he listed this as indigenous people, gays, the ‘earth’, ethnic groups oppressed by racism and so on. Given placards in the crowd I’d include the disabled. This is exactly the same listing of oppressed people, groups and ‘things’ that the modern Marxists utilise and that I’ve studied and reported on extensively in my Substack.
That is, that these multiple issues under the general banner of ‘oppressed’ are not important to the modern Marxists in themselves as issues. Rather the modern Marxists use each of these issues as promotional marketing tools for the Marxist political agenda for the downfall of capitalism.
Remember, the Marxists of post-World War 1 through to the 1960’s, were very much following the Soviet Union, Moscow lead world revolution. However, with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 Marxists globally and in Australia did not know where to turn. But we now have a new generation of ‘modern’ Marxists who have developed new marketing and promotional techniques that, from a marketing perspective, are sophisticated, seductive and highly effective.
What surprised me, and perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised, was that once I’d washed out my preconceptions about what I thought the rally would be about (ie; Palestine), I then saw it for what it actually was, a promotional rally for Marxism. I’ll repeat that. The Palestine issue is a promotional tool used by Marxists to further their agenda for the downfall of capitalism.
Why is it important to understand this? It is important because if there is to be an effective counterweight and push back against the Marxists endeavours and agenda we need to truly understand their techniques at first base. The anti-Jew movement for example is really a Marxist movement. Jews are promotional pawns in this respect for the modern Marxists.
That is, both Jews and Palestinians are being exploited by Marxists for promotional purposes. It’s heady stuff when looked at from this angle!
The street march: After the speeches the rally moved into the streets of Melbourne which were quite crowded with shoppers, tourists and people just spending a day in the CBD. There were two elements of the street march that I’ll finish on.
1) After the speeches the street march chant was ‘All Zionists are terrorists!” Watch here from X.
2) A fellow walking on the street pavement heading to an AFL football match, and who happened to be a Jew was effectively assaulted; sprayed with a liquid according to The Australian. The article and video link to the ‘assault’ is here.
Last comment: Those Marxists really are experts at hate!!

Your Substack is a really neat circlejerk lmfao
Good because a lot of it originates in class struggle. They’re ethnically cleansing the land for its natural riches and it’s not a singular issue as most things go it’s rooted in human greed and evil!
